How can I quickly learn the new marketing communications forms like Twitter & Facebook?

Paul’s Answer

There are 2 basic ways to learn any new information and particularly communications forms.

The first is to purchase a book or training program from one of the people who are already successful at using the new communications methodology and are offering training (book, courses, etc) on how to emulate them.

One of the people I look to for Facebook & Twitter is Mari Smith. She’s fun, engaging and is a real down-to-earth person. She would be a great person to learn from.

The second is to find people who are currently serving the same (or similar) audience as you and whose approach to using this communications forms you like. Then follow everything they do and try to deconstruct or “reverse engineer” their approach.

Why do they do what they do? What effect does it have on you, the consumer? How can you emulate that strategy in your own personal style and get similar results?

I hope this helps you succeed in the new world of online social communications!

I am officially on a quest to learn how to use Twitter effectively… and I’m going to share everything I learn here on the Make My Marketing Work blog.

Let’s talk about hash tags…

Hash tags look something like this: #marketing (that’s the hash tag for marketing).

When you put a hash tag on a tweet it becomes much easier to find for people searching on a particular topic. Alex Mandossian uses #tss when he and his clients (and prospects) discuss his Teleseminar Secrets program on Twitter.

Here is a video from social media expert Mari Smith where she explains in detail how to use hash tags and how to track popular tags.

Do you have additional ideas on how to effectively use hash tags on Twitter to find conversations, streamline your Tweets and use Twitter effectively for personal or business use? Please leave a comment!

So… I’m really good at certain things (like strategic marketing).

Other things, I may not know, but I can pick them up really fast (like sports in general).

But this Twitter thing?

Boy, I sure am struggling to figure out how to use this most effectively! (For me and the people who follow me.)

My impression… the people who are using it well are using it a lot. I mean a LOT! For instance, Guy Kawasaki “tweets” a couple dozen times per day. Where does he find the time?!

That being said… I’ve taken some baby steps to make this happen. Look to the right and you’ll see I’ve even got a Twitter Badge showing my recent updates. And a “Follow Me” button.

Cool, huh?

If you’ve got any advice for me on how to best use Twitter without it ruining my life, please leave your comment below.

Oh yes… and be sure to “follow” me at www.Twitter.com/PaulKeetch.
